Mycoplasma reagents
The MycoAlert products from Lonza give you results in just 20 minutes!
The kits are a selective biochemical (luminescence) tests that detect the activity of any mycoplasma enzymes. You perform a two-step reagent reaction with your cell supernatant, make two luminescence readings, and have your result in just 20 minutes.
The kits detect all the common mollicute contaminants (Mycoplasma, Acholeplasma, Entomoplasma, and Spiroplasma; except Ureaplasma).
If you need a small luminometer we have Lucetta 2 Luminometer from Lonza. Small, light, and very user-friendly, just insert the sample and do the reading.
If you already have an infection, Lonza also offers MycoZap™ Reagent that can eliminate mycoplasma infections in just 4 days. This has been optimized to remove mycoplasma with minimal toxic effects on the infected cells.
If in doubt, please contact Anja at af@bionordika.dk.

Mycoplasma is one of the most common contaminants in cell culture laboratories. Cells can be contaminated by cross-contamination (eg, through aerosols generated during pipetting, using the same medium bottles, working with more than one cell type at a time), contaminated material, contaminated donor tissue (<1%), or direct infection from the researcher.
It is important to check for Mycoplasma, since mycoplasma does not always kill the cells, but affects different cellular parameters, such as changing the cell membrane's antigenicity, creating chromosomal level changes, inhibiting cell metabolism, and fragmenting DNA.
